Woke up this morning to the news that Japan was hit with an 8.9 magnitude earthquake. There is horrific damage. The earthquake sparked a tsunami headed for Hawaii, due to hit at approximately 7am our time. No reports yet if any damage. Maximum wave heights were predicted to be about 6 feet. Honolulu is protected by a barrier reef so wave heights were expected to be lower there. Low-level tsunami warnings were even issued for the west coast of the continental U.S.
Japan's earthquake was centered off the northwest coast creating a tsunami wave 33 feet high. Incredible! The city closest to the epicenter is Sendai with a population of about 1 million.
